SILVER HARES
2007

Vice
Captain. Brian

Treasurer. Dennis Greenland
Secretary. John Scrivens
League Team
Captain. Roy Rumbold
As normal our
A.G.M. was held in early January after a very enjoyable Texas
Scramble (and before our new Captain departed on a 3 month
holiday!!! ) and was very well attended.
With a membership
of 60+ it is always rewarding to see so many members attend our main
functions, especially the A.G.M. This year was a rather peaceful
meeting so perhaps your committee are getting some
things right.
The "Seaford trip" this year was in
early May and the rain held off, although I was told that there may
have been a "slight breeze" which added to the enjoyment. The winner
was J. J. Smith so congratulations are in order. He may be
the last recipient of "Bertie on the Ball" as production of this
statue has ceased. So look
out for next years memento!!! It would
be remiss of me not to mention George Worrall who took part at
Seaford. George disqualified himself during the first round, as he
discovered he had too many clubs in his bag, contravening the Rules
of Golf thus preventing him any chance of winning. By doing this
he has set a fine example for us all to follow.
I would personally like to thank
Derek, Jim, Brian, Roy and others for taking over the running of
these two days due to my very late withdrawal. Thanks also to Mel
who stepped in at the very last moment - I shall return next year.
Our friendly matches are now well
under way (although the first one at home to Eltham Warren had to be
cancelled due to adverse weather ). We do encourage all members to
put their names down for these matches and be assured you will be
selected for some of them. Poult Wood is a new fixture this year,
our away match was a success, so hopefully this will continue next
year.
Competitions
The Winter Pairs has now been
completed and congratulations to the winners Bill Edgar / Don
Holland.
Commiserations to the runners up
Stan Rivers / Bill Cox.
Kent Veterans Knockout/League Matches
In the knockout, after defeating last
years winners (Rochester & Cobham) and then Beckenham Place Park we
came to a watery grave at Sheerness. However, in the league we have
not yet lost a match, so we are approaching the remainder of the
these matches with confidence.
Social
We have had one Quiz Evening,
again very well attended and will have a further one later in the
year.
Our Fun Evening, held again in
glorious weather produced the normal horror stories, but I think all
partners were still talking on the way home and it certainly is
looked forward to.
We now look forward to the rest of the
year, The Fransham Trophy, Singles Knockouts, John Southworth
Trophy, Invitation Day and our Mid Year Meeting.
